This hand painted watercolor portrait represents the state of Virginia. Dogwood was adopted as the state flower in 1918. It was chosen as the state flower to honor the connection it had to Virginia's rich history. Namely, Thomas Jefferson and the dogwoods he grew on his estate in the 1770s.
